My deepest condolences to your wife and to all of the family. He lived a rich life and it seems he passed peacefully. May his memory be a blessing.

I will keep supporting you on this platform as long as you feel you want to stay. As Valente said, we can't give up every space on the Internet because nazis infect it. But screw the spineless tech-bros who can't enforce their own terms of agreement.

I'm so sorry about your father-in-law; he sounds remarkable.

There's been a lot of handwringing and nasty behavior about Substack on bluesky, which is my main social media source these days. I'm with Cat Valente. It seems gross that writers trying to support themselves have to make moral judgments about their own income rather than the people who run these platforms. It sucks.

And thanks for not giving up on Substack just quite yet. Unlike twitter it sounds like the owners don’t exactly get off on it they’re just amoral asshats who may still fold and people won’t have to find a new place all over again.

My sympathy for the loss of your father-in-law. What an accomplished and good person he was, and as others have said, may his memory be a blessing.

Oh my heart what a remarkable life your wife's father led! What a blessing of a life. May his memory be a comfort even as it leaves a giant hole in your lives.

Thank you for addressing the Substack problem. I have a tiny presence, so I moved back to self-hosting and sending newsletters through a service and cross posting here, but it's enraging. I can't hang out in the Nazi bar, but the Nazi's keep coming into our bars and camping out. You've got a big presence, so thanks for using it.

Your father-in-law sounded like a heckuva guy. Condolences to your family, Dustin.

As for the Nazi problem, I don't even know what to say. I think I'm glad to be an old...I don't think I'd like to be on this Earth in another 10 or 20 years. We used to think that the old conservatives would die off and young people would not follow in their footsteps. But they're even worse. They are embracing actual fascist and Nazi propoganda. And not only are they voting, they are getting elected to positions in every level of our government, from town/village/city boards to the Capitol. It's a steady stream I just don't see dying, even when the movement's orange leader eventually does. Or even if he's convicted in every single trial. Sorry, I know I'm being a downer. I'd love to believe President Biden wins re-election. But even if he does, I don't see this Congress letting that result stand.

Nazis are everywhere, it seems fruitless to keep running from them.
