The Republican Party Has Had a, uh, Strong Reaction to Last Night's Election Results
Having a normal one ...
Despite what the polls might have suggested before yesterday’s vote, the election did not go as Republicans had assumed it would. They’re not taking it well. Take Kayleigh McEnany over on Fox News, who seems to be learning the same lesson the GOP has learned over the last several election cycles: The results don’t always align with the polling.
Maybe the problem is that “good polling” is a contradiction.
Reproductive rights, it turns out, is an essential issue to voters. Even in conservative states, voters turn out to protect the right to choose. Rick Santorum, however, thinks that’s not good! He thinks “pure democracy is not the way to run a country” because those dastardly youths turn out to vote for “sexy” issues like abortion and marijuana.
The Republican party, however, has never really been about principles. It’s been about “winning,” no matter the costs, which is why Donald Trump is their standard-bearer even though he cheated on his pregnant wife with a porn star and was a Democrat until 2012. After seeing abortion as a losing issue for the GOP, it hasn’t taken long for the party to soften its position.
“Democrats are trying to scare women into thinking Republicans don’t want abortion legal under any circumstances,” Sean Hannity said on his show last night. That is what most Republicans want, at least when they thought it was a winning issue. Over the previous 15 months, one Republican state after another has passed laws to severely limit or outright ban the right to an abortion in their states.
McEnany, meanwhile, took an alternative approach that sounds a lot like Democratic policy.
“Tomorrow, I want the House of Representatives passing legislation for men to pay women child support from the moment of conception, legislation to make the child tax credit apply to the unborn, legislation for women to have access to the supplemental food and nutrition program up to two years after childbirth.”
Is McEnany advocating for “government handouts” for “the unborn”?
Still, no one took their loss harder than Brian Robinson, a Republican running for a city council seat in New York City's 4th City Council district.
Sean Hannity tearing up that women want access to abortion will never not be funny. Fuck you Sean. Looks like you're not as all fucking powerful as you wish you were.
And fuck Santorum too. We rejected you back when you became a synonym to post gay sex jism and shit you colossal asshole. Go back into obscurity where you belong. (Checks channel he was on his bullshit about) Oh you already ARE in obscurity where you belong. Well. Still die.
The reaction to the election being "democrats just keep giving voters things they really want to vote on! how are we supposed to combat that?!" with ZERO sense of irony is really something else. Fuck these regressive assholes. Let's keep walking this shit back state by state, law by law til we walk them right out of government altogether.
Someone needs to remind that guy that Nazis vote republican.
“Democrats are trying to scare women into thinking Republicans don’t want abortion legal under any circumstances,”
That's because up until five minutes ago they did. I hope this makes them rethink the whole government shutdown thing next week. They're in enough trouble is as. But I'm not holding my breath.
