We shouldn’t hesitate to politicize it at all. This is basically a war for America. There aren’t rules. If this happened under Biden, the entire conservative movement would say it’s because of woke, and the media would follow their lead.

The overwhelming sentiment after a week plus of Trump, even for low info voters who can’t remember to breathe without a reminder, is chaos and confusion. This plays directly into that. Democrats should be on camera constantly talking about how this is a result of putting incompetent reality tv morons and rapist drunks in charge. This is what happens when you force out qualified people because they don’t believe in your insane election lies. This is what happens when tech idiots with no experience fire people en masse. People die when republicans are in charge, and more people are doing to die if and when ghouls like RFK and Tulsi Gabbard take over.

That’s the message. It doesn’t matter if it’s technically true. It fits the narrative you want to drive.

We also need to politicize more about how all the food recalls in the last few years, egg prices and so on were a direct result of Trump loosening regulations, allowing slaughterhouses to speed up processing, and slashing the FDA budget by significant amounts so there weren't enough inspectors. https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/tom-colicchio-food-safety-election/

Oh, they'll blame this on Biden. They'll say his woke policies are why we don't have excellent among air traffic controllers.

Just give them, like, 15 more minutes.

It’s the fault of the colored fol…. I mean DEI… somehow.

We need to stop worrying about it being technically true, because substantively it absolutely is. While it remains my opinion that it is on voters to actually pay attention, the Dems need to be more aggressive about hammering these points home and stop playing nice.

The reason the GOP have been electorally successful of late is that they are far better at selling a narrative (even if it is complete bullshit) and constantly put the Dems on the defensive. That needs to change

It's really disconcerting that the President of the United States is posing questions about an accident that claimed over 65 lives.

Dude, if you don't know what's going on, just shut the fuck up until you do.

Always remember: The dude is a platinum-plated A++ narcissist, and they do two things: Make it about themselves and deflect blame. Knowing *vaguely waves hands* stuff has nothing to do with it. He did all the good and none of the bad, so start clapping your flippers like a trained seal.

Trump really is intellectually like a five year old; instead of over-sharing cool facts about dinosaurs or a rambling story about a kid puking during snack time, he’s regurgitating half-remembered bits of his briefings put through a filter of paranoia and idiocy.

The right is already blaming DEI. Yes, it is a tragic accident, and in all probability it will turn out to be a series of factors like most air accidents. But, relentless political posturing is a MAGA specialty. NC is being ignored and abused, while Cali is getting special treatment. No one can talk about shootings, unless the perp is trans, then it's obvious what happened. And let's not talk about Covid.

There's no head of the FAA during a crisis, because an unelected oligarch got his feelings hurt. There's a critical air traffic controller shortage because the job is unrelenting and brutal because Reagan got rid of their union and protections. Is this going to get better because civil servants are going to be let go en mass or forced to pledge fealty to a group of Beekeeper level bad guys?

Just keep in mind if the situation was reversed, there would be no grace, no mercy, no reflection. Just endless slavering attacks.

Elon threw a tantrum because SpaceX was being fined a "measly" $600k.

“Whitaker’s departure came after he clashed with Musk, who is now in charge not just of SpaceX but of the new Department of Government Efficiency. In September Whitaker had proposed fines of more than $600,000 for SpaceX, prompting Musk to demand his resignation and promise to sue.”

Fox is already blaming "DEI" because apparently that's going to be the boogieman for all of society's problems for the next four years. Just like "antifa" was last time he was in office. So this is the pattern now. Whatever republicans are obsessed with is the cause of society's problems until they find something else to obsess on. You would think people would notice the pattern by now but if they could, Toad Dick wouldn't have been able to get elected in the first place.

Dear Higher Power,

Can you please arrange to have one of those "incompetent DEI" hires to be the air traffic controller for Air Force One's next flight? Because that would be peachy.

Thanks a bunch,

I used think that all those other folks around the Convicted Felon didn't deserve the same fate, but considering this administration's single-minded obsession on surrounding CFDT with rabid loyalists, I really don't care any longer. And the press pool that travels along with him? They've been useless.

I have a question because I don’t know much about aviation and none of the articles I’ve read address it: do military helicopters typically practice in commercial flight paths? Because that seems… unwise.

This BBC article talks about how if the crew was one that would be flying in and out of DC airspace, because it's so busy and so tightly controlled, they would need to train for all the types of air traffic coming in (international, commercial, other military). https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cpdx6le5l27o

On Rachel Maddow’s show or segment on this last night, there is a video that does make it seem like the Blackhawk hit the plane. However, I do recognize it’s very early in the investigation and the video may be misleading. I hope the investigation is not hampered by political infighting and incompetence (yes, I know, wishful thinking), because the victims’ families deserve to know the truth and have some semblance of closure.

The combination of malevolence and unfitness for any office with the sheer incompetence is going to lead us into disaster and chaos. Trump wants a cabinet of sycophants and know nothings who will never push back. And Republican Congress, who are also scared of him, will lead us into the darkness.

Aaaaaand... he blamed Buttigieg. Because of fucking course he did.

Buttigieg clapped back on him via X:

"As families grieve, Trump should be leading, not lying. We put safety first, drove down close calls, grew Air Traffic Control, and had zero commercial airline crash fatalities out of millions of flights on our watch. President Trump now oversees the military and the FAA. One of his first acts was to fire and suspend some of the key personnel who helped keep our skies safe. Time for the President to show actual leadership and explain what he will do to prevent this from happening again."

Oh, and of course, the Chief Oompah Loompah signed an EO today blaming Bidden and DEI for making flying more dangerous. Projection much, you fucking loser?

I read a thread where ex air force pilots as well as commercial pilots, and also flight enthusiasts who live there and watch all the flights/military operations around the airport- few things, it's a very tight air space that depends a lot on air traffic control because lines of flight crossover each other at the Reagan airport, and it handles an extreme number of flights for such a small airport. The helo and commercial jets can't talk to each other (different radio channels) but ATC can hear and talk to both. The helo pilots were allegedly practicing in night vision goggles, and were told to avoid the incoming plane by ATC, but didn't respond to the final warning. There was a plane on the ground to the right which they turned to avoid (thinking that was the one), but the AA plane was to their left. The pilots thought the whole thing wasn't likely the AA plane pilots fault, that it looks like the helo flew into the plane, and it all happened in mere seconds.

I learned a lot.

Expand full comment

So, I think in general it isn't exactly CFDT's fault, but the upheaval is causing chaos, and removing watch dogs on things are going to create more things like this, which basically don't happen when regulations, policies/procedures, are put in place and tested.
